Basically, these are the OI rules iterated, with a few additions.
1.) Don't swear. Don't mask swears (i.e. using * or _ in place of a letter or letters). If you're unsure as to whether a word is a swear or not, assume it is. I hope I don't need to add a list
2.) Don't be prejudiced. This includes, but is not limited to, racist, sexist or homophobic remarks (i.e. referring to someone or something as "gay" in a negative manner).
3.) Don't SPAM. SPAM refers to anything that qualifies as a Stupid Pointless Annoying Message.
This includes, but is not limited to, giving play-by-play commentary on your activities (i.e. "Nooooo, i died!" or "Ahhhh! an imp is chasing me!"). If anyone wants to know what you're up to, they'll ask.
Similarly, please try to get as much of your thought on one line as possible. Using multiple lines for one thought is excessive and annoying.
4.) Don't beg. The rest of us worked hard for our gold, platinum and items. Why shouldn't you? The game is designed so that you can level, easily, with the items you're given when you create your character(s).
5.) Don't discuss other online games in the world chat channels (Sages, Ogre, Heroes). If you want to discuss RS, there are many appropriate places to do so, and OI is not one of them.
6.) Don't cross-channel chat. If someone asks a question in Sages, answer it in Sages. If you want to contribute to a conversation in Ogre, do so in the Ogre channel, etc.
7.) When you ask a question, pay attention to the chat so you don't have to ask again.
8.) Don't use excessive punctuation. One question mark or exclamation point is enough to get your point across. Similarly, don't use all caps. Its irritating and unnecessary.
9.) If you are buying or selling something, use the market channel. Moreover, do NOT use the market channel to ask questions, recruit clan members, etc. It is to be used for buying and selling only.
10.) Ask if an item is for sale before offering to buy it. Do not assume that every player is willing to sell any item, because this often is not the case.
11.) Don't create an inappropriate or annoying name. This includes, but is not limited to, excessively long names (i.e. player09135103571251375).
12.) Don't whine about being attacked or killed in a PvP area. You accepted the risk by entering that area. If you don't want to be attacked by other players, avoid PvP areas.
13.) Ask before sending a trade request. Its just polite.
14.) Ask before requesting to join a clan. Again, its just polite.
15.) Don't harrass Vagabond when he logs in. Saying hello is fine, but do not ask questions including, but not limited to the subjects of:
-future updates (i.e. when is ____ coming out?, etc)
-the inner-workings of the game (i.e. source code, etc)
-personal information (i.e. A/S/L, etc)
Moreover, if you ask Vagabond a question and receive no answer, do not ask again! This is likely an indication that he is working on the game, which is certainly more important than holding a Q&A session. There are plenty of ways to reach Vagabond with questions without harrassing him in-game.
16.) When posting in the Public Square, take the time to make your post coherent and readable. You have an infinite amount of time to revise your post before sharing it with everyone else. Make use of it.
17.) When creating a new thread in the Public Square, make sure you are doing so in the appropriate forum, and also give your thread as descriptive a title as possible (i.e. "Selling 6c Dex Trollhair Archer Armor" rather than "Selling items").
